Art--Artikel Do you need a definite (der, die, das) or indefinite article (ein, eine)?
E--Endung. Incorrect ending on the adjective.
F/I-formelle/ informelle Anredeform. You are using the incorrect form of address. Remember that formal situations require "Sie" and informal situations require "du" (singular) or "ihr" (plural).
G--Geschlecht--Gender. Maskulin (der), feminin (die), neutrum (das). This refers to wrong gender assignment to a noun or pronoun, e.g., DIE Mädchen sieht schön aus.
HV--Hilfsverb (auxiliary verb). Use of an improper auxiliary verb, e.g., haben in place of sein; also included may be constructions involving werden or a modal verb (+ infinitive), or confusion of "wollen" and "werden"
K--Kasus A part of speech has been assigned the wrong case. Should it be nominative, accusative, dative, or genitive?
Konj.--Konjunktion You need either a subordinating (weil, da, ob) or a coordinating (und, oder, denn) conjunction.
M--Modus (mood). The verb has been placed into the wrong mood; usually subjunctive will need to be replaced by the indicative or vice versa.
MV-Modalverb. You have used the incorrect modal verb or you need a modal verb in this sentence for it to make sense.
N--Numerus. Incorrect number assignment to a noun or pronoun, or a noun has the incorrect plural ending. This also includes the missing "-(e)n" ending of dative plural nouns.
Neg--Negation. You used the wrong form of negation ("nicht" vs. "kein")
NS--Neue Struktur A completely new structure is needed to convey the proper meaning, e.g., in the sentence "Paul hatte einen Vetter hieß Eduard" the sentence may be corrected by using any one of several structural alternatives. Or you may need to phrase something in a different way. Z.B. "Es ist Spaß" is an English translation. The correct German equivalent is "Es macht Spaß."
O--Orthographie ( Spelling). This includes missing or superfluous umlauts.
Prä--Präposition. Have you used the correct preposition (durch , für, gegen, an, auf, etc . . . )?
Pro--Pronomen. Incorrect use of pronoun. Check to make sure that you are using the correct personal or possessive pronoun.
Pun--Punktuation. Includes missing periods, false comma placement or missing comma. e.g., Sie denkt dass, der Artikel interessant ist. / Sie denkt dass der Artikel interessant ist.
Ref--Reflexiv If written as a reflexive construction, change to a non-reflexive or vice versa. The code may also indicate use of an incorrect reflexive pronoun.
Str--Struktur. Sentence structure does not make sense.
SV--Subjekt/ Verb. Have you used the correct form of the verb? Does it agree with the subject? Is it conjugated correctly?
T--Tempus (verb tense). Tense selection is in some way inappropriate. This may be because you have not been consistent.
V--Verb. Incorrect verb form. Is the prefix separable or inseparable? Is the principle part of the verb correct? Is the verb stem correct? Is the verb strong/ irregular or weak/ regular? Did you use the proper past tense form?
Vo--Vokabular. You don't have the right word, e.g. for "a bar" that serves alcoholic drinks, the correct term is "Kneipe," not "Hindernis" (which means a bar, as in an obstacle).
Wst--Wortstellung (Word Order). Any error involving word order. This includes placement of the verb. Where is it and where should it be? In second position or at the end of the clause?
ZAO--Zeit/Art/Ort (Time/ Manner/ Place). Do you have the correct word order with regard to time, manner, place? Zum Beispiel: Ich fahre am Freitag (Zeit--wann?) mit dem Zug(Art-wie?) nach Chicago (Ort--wo/wohin?).
